This isn't Denmark. Poor countries are much more susceptible to religion. Better to go the Hoxha/China route (remove it completely), than to play with fire, with illiterate teachers. If Hoxha lasted another 20 years, Albania would be 100% irreligious today. Now only like 1/3rd are religious, but I'll take that over what we had pre-WWII. That number will shrink like it's shrinking almost everywhere.
That's why the strategy should be to have qualified teachers who give students a foundation where they have basic knowledge and won't be as easily brainwashed.

Poor countries are susceptible, because their governments usually don't give a shit about educating them. Albania wasn't religious under Hoxha but what did this non-religious population do to change anything? They didn't do shit and to this day they don't do shit and elect Nano, Sala, Edi and the likes of those. So what has changed with the irreligious Albanians? Nothing.

Tomorrow evening Edi Rama will speak directly to the Greek people live , discussing with 4 journalists on the recent events in Greko-Albanian relationship.

It will be on air at Skai.

What's changed is that my family is a mixture of Christians and Muslims. That would have rarely happened if Hoxha didn't ban religion.

Yes, in an ideal world with amazing teachers, I would agree with you. But this is reality. Better to not do something at all, than to do it badly.

Lol. I also think it's the same with some posters who call other Albanians "Arabs". Pretty much tells me they don't know any albanians besides the ones from their village/town :D

Yeah if anything, due to this constant suppression Islam is making a resurgence it feels. I saw more little girls wearing hijabs in Shkoder this summer than I ever saw in my last 20 years of visiting.. Granted it was still a very tiny number, but definitely noticeable. Based off my own personal experience I can break Albanian's down into these religious categories:

1. Agnostic (believe in God, not religion, we're most likely Communist)
2. Moderate Muslim (believe in Allah, for the same reason most Americans believe in Jesus i.e. they were simply born into it)
3. Catholics (my own category, but by far one of the most critical groups of Albania as in they criticize the Muslim Albanians non-stop)
4. Extreme Muslims (the ones parenting little girls wearing hijabs, say stupid shit like "ISIS isn't that bad" etc)

Funnily enough I think in terms of intellect, the rankings would also be about the same :D Except Catholics and Moderate Muslims would be tied because to me they're two sides of the same leaf..

Also I would speak on Orthodox Albanians but somehow I have never met one in my entire life

The problem with the media, and our brains too, is the focus on the "fringes" because that's what makes the news. In a free society, you'll get people going both ways. Both becoming more religious and less religious.

So because some people become more religious, it doesn't mean society as a whole is becoming more religious. The whole point of a free society, is that you have "chunks" of people, that move in opposite directions.
