Btw FIFA lost it’s case against Azejbaijan even on a more blatant situation: where the player had played for all Croatia youth and main team but also having nothing to do with Azerbaijan because he’s clearly slavic:

If they lost that theres no way they can win against us.

Albania opens up a heavy underdog to win in Poland.

via Bethard:
Home ~63%
X ~22%
Away ~15%

We should not expect to go into Warsaw looking to attack, as the home team will mop the floor with us.

The trick is to field as tall and well conditioned of a lineup as possible, with the objective of stifling the Polaks into a miserable draw.

That doesn't matter. New FIFA rules states if player has been living in a country for 5 years and is out of favor with his prior NT/country (ie not selected for a period of time) the player can switch. The Croat meets these two criteria so he's allowed to switch.

I think what makes Bajrami difficult for us because he doesn't have a parent/grandparent from Albania and I think after the recent changes FIFA may be stricter on this. I'm also not sure if a player has featured in a U-21 competition final if he's allowed to switch because I remember reading something like that previously.

Thats great but Nedim Bajrami is Albanian , as are his parents and his grandparents.

Bajrami is ethnically Albanian but he was not born in Albania nor was his parents/grandparents. FIFA may see this as a black and white issue and won't care about ethnicity.

In the past it didn't matter and FIFA was lenient on the issue. I think the FSHF would claim the Kosovar player grandparents were born in Kukesi or some kind of connection that was obviously fake but point is FIFA didn't care back then. If they change their stance and take a hardline stance on this I don't see how Bajrami will ever be eligible unless he plays in the Superliga for 5 years.

You are allowed to switch from U21 provided you are eligible for the nationality you are switching to by law and haven't just been given it for footballing reasons. I trust we will be able to get the documents of his grandparent/s that were born in Albanian territories or make a convincing fake

From a case about this in 1994 between Ireland/N Ireland

"The Committee considered this association’s statement that almost any player can obtain a Republic of Ireland passport in order to secure eligibility to play for this country.

The Committee discussed this very serious matter at length and had to come to the unfortunate conclusion that FIFA cannot interfere with the decisions taken by any country in the question of granting passports.

The only way that the national associations could prevent their nationals from being systematically granted passports by another country to enable them to play for its national teams would be to field them in an official match for one of their national representative teams, which would bind them to this particular association"

Guys, it has nothing to do with heritage or passports or blah blah. If that was the case then the Djimisitis wouldn't play for Albania with 0 problems.

It's all about getting capped for the u21 before you turn 21.

The best example is Munir:

However, Munir was eventually allowed to play for Morroco because it was proven that he played for Spain u21 before he turned 21. (Bajrami was 21 when he played for Swiss u21).

There are some other similar cases that happened recently but can't find them.

You are allowed to switch NTs even if you played for the U21 after 21 If you held/were eligible for that nationality when you made those appearances. This is part of the emergency amendments made by FIFA. If you were NOT eligible for the nationality you are currently trying to switch to then you can't switch to it
