I think southerners speak in a feminine way. Their voices are very thin and it just seems feminine to me. I have this standard-bullshit, to be honest. I've been influenced by it myself, as that's what everyone speaks in TV nowadays. I love how the old schoolers speak gegnisht, would have loved to speak it that way.

Sadiku is from Elbasan, not a Southerner by definition. Southerners from Tepelene/Vlore have some of the thickest accents in all of Albania. The more civilized the people (Korce, Gjirokaster, Berat) the softest the accent is.

So were just going to sit here and act like Shkodra is not the pearl of Albanian intellect??

Lol @ this thread derailing. Btw, I don't think there is one set southern or northern dialect, especially when it comes to accents. It's broken up into parts.

I can understand some Kosovars better than Shkodrans, while I can't understand Iliridan dialects at all, even though they're all considered Geg.

It's funny because even people from the same towns don't speak the same. For example we have Abrashi and Kukeli who are originally from Gjakova but in interviews they speak in a totally different way from each other. Cana is even more different than them.

I was specifically talking about Southerners

I consider the Shkodran accent to be the best in Albania and it is not thick at all unlike that of most Northerners. Like Aurora said, we tend to lump the accents into Gheg and Tosk but they vary drastically.

People from the Kosova area and people from Shkoder i think have no problem understanding eachother. Our team is nothern dominated so we hardly see any south influence, so little that we have to consider Sadiku south.

It started all from Kaçe who speaks that malaka accent . I can understand almost all dialects but not the sense of humour of some though Had same issues like Pjeter when growing up in Albania as grandparents used to speak "malesorshe" . My dad speaks like he is from Tepelene , he grew up in the army since he was kid and most of the time he stayed in south (tepelene , vlore , korçe) . My mom speaks closest to the formal language , she studied and lived in Tirane.
The rest of the family speaks mixed lezhjanshe. I like speaking in dialect and find myself quite very fluent using it while speaking the formal language i think everyone's voice will sound more feminine.

Kosova has many dialects too, from my experience people from Prishtina and Prizreni speak a version that can be easily understandable by the rest of albanians.

These discussions about the Albanian language are pointless.
I doubt most of you even have a basic understanding of Standard Albanian let alone different dialects other than your own.

Most people in Albania speak Standard Albanian, no need to offend most the country just to compensate for inferiority complexes.
