Ironically with Fonseca it was much easier because they played a 3 men backline and he had plenty of cover but yeah even with him he failed to impress too.

But this loss is on Mourinho. A team getting destroyed 6-1 by a side who most of your individual players have a higher market value than is a failure of organization/motivation.
Dallku wrote: Thu Oct 21, 2021 10:34 pm ^ Exactly. Ibanez doesn't need to prove himself against Norwegian farmers. He's a well established player and will be a Brazil international soon. I bet you anything on that.

Someone who has everything to play for was Kumbulla and he was horrendous on the ball and off the ball.
That makes 0 sense. If he's a starter he's allowed to be garbage? That's just being arbitrary based on pecking order, which was already established before Kumbulla even got there.

Not sure if allowed is the correct word but he definitely has created space for himself to be judged. Lets not forget that Conference is a 3rd tier competition. Ibanez gets judged based on what he does in Serie A vs Juve, Lazio, Inter, etc...

Maybe unfair but that's the game. Will you judge Cristiano Ronaldo if he plays like shit in the FA Cup against some 3rd league competition? Hell no because he has bigger fish to fry and has proved himself.

Conference league means everything for Kumbulla because it's the only competition he can play in and prove himself.
Kumbulla is not proven for Mourinho and started several steps down from a guy like Ibanez who already played a full starting season for Roma last year and started well with Mourinho's trust. So what he does in these cup minutes is gonna be important especially considering Mourinho didn't want to start him, he even hinted in the press conference he got pressured by media opinion and fans to and that he won't start bench players in the ECL again. You know for sure when he said that he had Kumbulla and a few others in mind.

I guess you can say it's his first impression, he saw Kumbulla and didn't like him and the time he decides to start him he plays really bad in what can arguably be one of the worst losses in his managerial career. He won't consider Kumbulla at all now, who knows if he even starts a game in Serie A this season lol

Apparently Kumbulla had a pretty poor pre-season. I think that's when Mourinho made up his mind about him. Kumbulla could prove him wrong in the conference league and he's just not doing it. He's just not a Roma or a Mourinho type of player.

For his age Kumbulla is still a very good defender. Just has to find the right club and environment to develop.

Mourinho has a habit of throwing players under the bus when shit doesn't go his way. Nothing new here. This stint won't end well, and it's the beginning of the end for him. Once you lose the locker room it's over. Guy is a washed up coach.

We've seen what Kumbulla can do against Cristiano Ronaldo, Dybala, Lewandowski. He has his limitations (mainly speed), but he's certainly good enough to be a starter. He doesn't need to prove shit. If he had an ounce of self respect he should hand in a transfer request. I know that 1.8 million salary is tempting, but Djimsiti is doing much better career wise with 800k/year. Money is not the issue at this point.

Btw, Strakosha with a clean sheet against Marseille. I think that's 2 clean sheets in a row in Europe (the other vs. Lokomotiv Moscow). Even in that game that he made that blunder, he made a world class save after.

He is in a pretty similar situation to Kumbulla too. He should just leave and definitely not renew.

Yup , we’re over analysing this . It’s Mourinho and we’ve seen this story 1 million times .

Fun fact: Roma was only a -0.5 favorite in this game. Trap game of the century if you keep up with these things..

It's amazing how everyone can cause upsets at home except Albania.

Kumbulla leaving Roma would be the best for him. He needs game time and in a three man backline system. Go to a team like Torino or Udinese

I also think these EL games for bigger clubs can be deceiving as they don't take the farm teams seriously. Even if Roma's second unit have more talent then the Norwegian team it's still not easy to ask for 11 players who are out of form, have no continuity with each other and haven't played this year to beat a team on the road (even if it's a village team).

Typical commie isolationist mentality. Inferiority complex against anything foreign. Bushi said back in the 90s they’d be intimidated just cause the other team had brand new uniforms/shoes and nice stadiums.

Although what I’m confused about is that even people that grew up outside still have it. It’s like a virus. That’s why we need guys like Broja and Djimsiti to lead. They’re at least not phased by dumb crap.

I'm gonna take a guess and say the Norwegian team weren't afraid to play attacking football and didn't bunker like pussies. Only Albania plays for draws at home in a must win game.
