Kumbulla has gotten countless chances for Roma. Last year(21 games) and this year in Conference League and he hasn't impressed a soul. On the contrary he has been terrible. When was the last time he had an OK game for Roma?

Kumbulla's highlight in Roma is Norwegian farmers jogging past him. As Mourinho said, he's a bicycle compared to the opponent who's a car.
The difference is Napoli didn't have 20 CBs all waiting their turn and half of them already solidified in the lineup.

Your arguments about Kumbulla I can make about Rrahmani "Why is he letting Georgian farmers, own him with Kosova?"

Even the best defenders in the world can look like shit when the team has 0 support. They're not going to outmuscle/outrun the opponent's entire offence by themselves. Take a look at Kosova's game, and you'd have no idea Rrahmani plays in the best defence in Serie A.

Dude, Rrahmani has taken Manolas' spot who cost Napoli like 50 million. That in itself is extremely impressive.

It's similar to how Broja plays over Southampton's 20 million striker. If you impress you'll play in the top leagues. Coaches want to win first and foremost.

There is no "agenda" against Kumbulla. If anything Roma has given him so many chances because they desperately want him to do good since he was a big investment for them. If anything they've given him more chances than he deserves. He's just not performing. I don't know what else you want them to do?? 21 games last year is not little. He has been given so many chances and failed every one of them.

Balliu played the full 90 as Rayo beat Barcelona 1-0.

You always say he's not impressing, yet fail to point out why in terms of skills. What, a tall lanky 6"3 defender got outpaced by a winger from the halfway line? Roshi was owning Portuguese and French defenders for pace when he played in Croatia. Put even someone like Chiellini there in the same situation and see what happens.

90% of defence is a team game. It's organization, chemistry, midfield cover. 1 forward can dribble 3 defenders. 1 defender can't mark 3 people. That's why Mourinho went back to parking the bus last game. That 10% is the individual CB performance, which is just not having brainfarts and DUELS. We've seen his defending skills in the box.

Thankfully Trashi is our starter so it doesn't matter.

Of course chemistry and team work are important for defense but individual quality matters too. Defenders are judged like goalkeeper -, the less individual mistakes they make the better they are. Then they are judged by how many duels they win with attackers. Most world class defenders win most of their duels, especially in the air.

You're talking about Kumbulla at Roma but I'm actually concerned that he might not be a starter at his next club either. He needs to be better.

Looks our boy Hysaj is going to finally lose his place. And under Sarri too. Not surprised. He just doesn't cut it. He should go back to Empoli imo.

Always said Roma was a terrible choice for him. Even before he started. 99% of the time I'm right about these things. They are not a defender-friendly club. Historically they're a team that leaks goals left and right. Some place like Inter with Conte would have been 10x better. Even Juventus would have been great. Unfortunately, Roma was the only club willing to spend 30 million euros on a defender with 1 season under his belt.

Yeah historically they have been leaking goals. But this season they are actually pretty good defensively. They are ranked as the 3rd best defense in Serie A so far.

But clearly this wasn't the right club for him. Too early of a jump. Continuing to develop at Verona would've been better in hindsight but then again even his former coach at Verona left so who knows.

But problem with Mourinho is that he's too much of a savage. He will tell you the truth in your face with 0 regard. Clearly too much for young and innocent Kumbulla to deal with.

Hopefully he plays in his next club. A Torino or something like that could be interesting. He needs a patient coach who can live with his mistakes and help him develop.

Football is filled with world class players who Mourinho shat on while they were young. Kumbulla will be on that list soon with De Bruyne and Sala.

Btw look at the hilarious goal they conceded today. Mancini/Ibanez both marking a striker together, and they still let him break free and score. 2 CBs can't mark 1 guy.

Put Kumbulla there and he can actually mark people inside the box.

I'd go as far to say I can't remember if ever that Mourinho developed a young defender or young player in general.
