He's not "moving backwards" because nobody wants him though. Staying at Roma was his choice. He's literally doing side quests(and still doing miracles) because he has nothing left to prove. He can coach any team he wants.
ahahahahahahah yeah man that’s why he got fired at United , Tottenham and now doing “miracles” finishing 6th in back to back years. No big teams want him because he simply isn’t a top coach anymore.
Mourinho has coached practically half the top teams. Teams like Chelsea, United or Real won’t hire him again due to his recent history with them. Some other teams like Barca will never hire him due to his Real connections and anti Barca style. There’s realistically no more top teams for him to manage besides PSG.

Hence the Roma job which is something that motivates him. If he wins the Europa league with them he has succeeded with them and will be pushing for Serie A title soon
Nah... there are plenty of better teams than Roma out there who haven't hired him previously, the truth is, despite how much of a legend he is, he is a little finished now. Roma isn't even top5 biggest clubs in their own league under him let alone in the world.

PSG (due to have an opening), Napoli/Juventus, Man City, Arsenal, Bayern (who recently had an opening), etc, there are many clubs. They just now have better managers than him.

They just don't want him because he is not the hot commodity he has once been.

That's forgetting Chelsea who literally hired Graham Potter and rehired Frank Lampard as interim and we're saying that they wouldn't take him back if they thought it was the right thing. Of course they would.

ECL and EL back-to-back wins (if happens) is a big achievement for a club like Roma but the truth is he is not doing some stellar job, they haven't moved in the league under him and he has more backing from their board than usually is given.

Mourinho isn’t a top manager anymore, don’t be fooled into thinking that. Hasn’t been for years.
This is the craziest take ever considering what he's doing every year with a very limited budget and countless injuries. With any other coach Roma would be nowhere near Europe nevermind going to finals every year and qualifying.

and what do you mean anymore? How do coaches regress?? lol If anything he's better than ever because of experience.

There are rumors he'll go to psg next season where he'll probably win the CL. Mourinho guarantees winning. Definitely top 3 coach all time.

Overall Kumbulla has definitely improved under mourinho over the years. He's just mentally fragile and injury prone.
Of course they can. Styles of football and footballing climate has evolved so much over the last few decades. Possession JDP football is on the rise more than it ever was and defensive football is starting to become so much more rare, he thrived in an era where it was still popular and effective.

That's not to mention factors like motivation and effort, he has won everything and is pretty old now, he probably doesn't have the fire and passion he once did.

After 10-20 years in management you definitely hit a ceiling where you can't learn much more than you already have.

This is a load of bollocks. Mourinho hasn’t won a league title since 2015, and is moving backwards in terms of teams coached, prime mourinho was up there with the best of all time. He’s just not had the same impact on teams for a while now.

And no I don’t care about the conference league, West Ham and David Moyes are in the final, I’m not gonna start calling him a top coach.

Not sure that is true if his career has shown to be on a downward slope.

He hasn't won a major title for quite some time, has been fired successively by B tier clubs like United and Tottenham, and now is at a worse team than even those two.

Just seems like his natural career progression declining rather than his choice.

I love Jose though and he is in the argument for GOAT manager for me. Just not what he used to be anymore.

For those top tier managers(there is only a handful of them) there is no such thing as career going downwards (when they have already won it all) but only new challenges if they wish to pursue them.

Carlo Ancelotti was Everton manager a few years ago. Does that mean that he was a bum and forgot how to coach when he joined them? That's not how it works. Managers are not like players who naturally decline because their legs stop working lol

Mourinho has made back to back European finals with an underdog team (last time they were in a final before Mourinho was in 1990–91) but he can't hack it modern style...

Carlo actually did well with Everton though. He got them 11th place. I don't think they've gotten close to that since. And obviously recently won a league and CL double.

Mourinho hasn't really done a stellar job at any club since Chelsea.

Probably a combination of that and a lack of motivation/fire that all sportspeople have after having already won it all and succeeded in their career.

If he's still got it, he would prove it by doing a top job with either of Man U, Tottenham or Roma in the last 9 years or whatever. The best out of those is his Roma stint which is okay but not stellar so far.

ECL is a new competition so obviously records are there to be broken for it since it didn't exist before. A team as good as Roma relatively should be expected to win that competition.

EL is a bigger win and definitely important but let's see if he does it before commenting yet.

Cup performances and league performances are very different things. League performance demands a level of consistency and a proper footballing philosophy. Mourinho has always been mediocre in terms of league performances.

Mourinhos league records with Chelsea and Madrid are yet to be broken and you call him mediocre, lol!

Jose's 2nd place finish with United with 81 points is United's best finish since Sir Alex and even won the Europa League with them. City that year had 100 points and it was downright impossible to win it that year. You can't even really hold him accountable for Tottenham since that would be a near historical accomplishment if he could have them winning the league.

At this point managers like Pep and Klopp are better due to their accomplishments at City/Liverpool (even if Pep has an unlimited budget to work with). But I respect Jose to do a rebuilding project unlike Pep who always has unlimited funds at his disposal. Klopp gets massive respect for rebuilding Liverpool into a powerhouse.

Some points about Mourinho are valid like his teams always flopping the third season, being too harsh on players and a history of passing on superb attacking players (De Bruyne, Salah, etc).
