It's your nostalgia talking. He was shit back then too, but we really didn't have anyone better at the time.

A creative midfielder playing in a top league. Do we have that now?
Back then we were horrible defensively and undisciplined, but we were much better in an attacking sense than we are now. I like Xhaka, Abrashi, and Memushaj but those guys don't have 1/4th of the creativity Skela had. Kace is a good passer, but he's not a creator.

Easy to scoff at Skela's career but we sorely lack a player of his type who can hold the ball comfortably in midfield.Migjeni wrote:Skela’s Career:

I feel for Skela, Bogdani, Lala because they didn't have a Mavraj or even a Hysaj in the back. The stability of a team starts from the defense. Those guys had to play with Teli, Aliaj, Dallku(who was making fatal errors in every game) and trash like that.

Ervin Skela wouldn't start on this squad similar to how players like Meha, Rashica, Kace, etc, get ignored(Not saying Skela is worst than them). I fail to see how Skela, who was a physically weak, unatheltic and unwilling defender would get opportunities. Skela, like the guys I previously mentioned, would be benched in favor of hard working players like Memushaj, Lila, Lenjani, Abrashi, etc. Maybe he'd start as the FSHF would force DB to have a player originating from the Superliga in the lineup.
In reality Skela was a slightly better Meha. Very similar styles of player.

Skela is hyped by some, because he had a little technique, but he wasn't close to what people make him out to be when you read their descriptions of him. Very lazy, had a good shot and could sometimes make a good pass. While knocking talents like Rashica and saying we're hyping them (which isn't the case for the majority on this forum), they're simultaneously praising Skela. The irony is baffling.

That's a good description of him. He's like a Meha who's able to play in the middle but besides that he has major flaws to his game.Migjeni wrote:Skela is hyped by some, because he had a little technique, but he wasn't close to what people make him out to be when you read their descriptions of him. I think alot of posters become nostalgic. I also understand that he wasn't a diaspora player and was from the Superliga which hypes him more. But he hasn't accomplished anything. I also find it amusing when the same few posters would say that teams like Germany used to fear us.. after losing to them LOL. Then we'd lose to a team like Azerbaijan the next game.
Doesn't help that Albanian media(guys like Shakohoxha) rate him like a messi. All new creative talents are compared to Skela. They think he's some sort of maestro.
I can understand the hype for Lala as he was a quality player and a complete one(besides being a dwarf). Very good player.

This has nothing to do with nostalgia but it could very well have to do with you guys not having watched Skela play in his prime. No one's saying Skela was a world beater but he was definitely one of the better creative midfielders we've had who was very comfortable with the ball. Obviously like most creative midfielders he's not gonna play much defense and will appear lazy to most people. Some people call Ozil lazy too. I still think Fatmir Vata was better than Skela but he had a short lived career with the NT.artan wrote:That's a good description of him. Also, there's nothing to be nostalgic about the old days or Skela. If anything I'd hate on him as he played for Fk Tirana. Also watching us lose on a consistent basis for almost 3 decades, with the exception of a brief good spell under Briegel when we went undefeated at home for the the Euro 2004 qualifiers, has been a traumatizing experience. This current group plays an aggressive defensive style which i like a lot better than the defensive crap of the old days but we desperately need some creativity upfront. Memushaj provides a bit of that but that's not enough and I prefer someone like Skela/Rama to take over. I don't think Rashica can be that but he can be better than Roshi on the wing who's completely dipped in form.
Please, Shakohoxha is a complete retard and most people don't pay attention to him. If that were true they'd also hype Hyka, similar in style to Skela, who is a Superliga product.artan wrote:Doesn't help that Albanian media(guys like Shakohoxha) rate him like a messi.
