Albania at EURO 2016

With memories of the golden years (80's) of the albanian football still fresh on her mind, Albania is now attempting to recreate its strong football legacy. As young players start making their names abroad, the future is looking bright for Albanian football!

Wait, the coach's name is Giovanni?
Gianni is the diminutive of Giovanni that in Albanian is equal to Gjon.
Ah ok, makes sense. I think Jovan Abazi would be the better Albanian equivalent then :)

Points of view because you're not used to the sound of Gjon but Jovan is used more by serbs or greeks now ;)

Here arberesh always have a custom to give to the first male the name Giorgio (Gjergj) if the father is named Giovanni (Gjon) and vice versa if things like that would go on albanians would have original names and i would be called Martin :D

In other news G. Xhaka officially became an Arsenal player, would of been good to have him in our team oh well. Rashica would also be a perfect fit for Arsenal on the right

I am an English journalist and I’m making a documentary that follows Albania’s story at the EUROs. I hope to interview fans about what it’s like to follow your national team at a major tournament for the first time.

I’m wondering if anybody would like to get involved and enjoy being interviewed?

I will be travelling to Lens, Marseille and Lyon to capture the fans experience and I have a ticket to the Albania vs. Romania game. I’m very excited and will be following Albania for the tournament!

If any fan would like to share their story, their thoughts on their experience or France and the competition itself, I would love to hear it with the hope of including it in the documentary.

You can follow me on Twitter @tomtibble if you are interested and would like to get in touch or please feel free to send me a message on here.

Many thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom, welcome to the forum.

A bunch of people will be traveling from the US, Canada and the U.K. to France and going to all three games.
Thank you! I look forward to meeting fans out there. Do you know where the majority of Albania fans will be based for the three games? And is it likely that people will go to the stadiums for the match-day atmosphere even without tickets? I'm hoping to capture the carnival mood!

Thoughts on the list:

Not surprised. Gianni said he was going to pick the players who got us here and he did. I also think it's fair, since this is our debut tournament it's only right the players who helped us make history have a chance to prove themselves once again on the biggest stage of their careers.

Surprise Picks:

Veseli
Rrahmani

Neither probably won't even see a second but pretty youthful picks by Gianni's standards. Also Amir at 6'4 could be an extra body if our defenders run thin but our backline is absolutely packed at the moment (Hysaj, Cana, Mavraj, Gjimshiti).

Veseli I don't think will play at all either but at least De Biasi has opened his eyes to new options which brings me to my next point:

Milot Rashica! Yes he made it, I didn't think De Biasi was actually going to integrate him into the team this early but the future can start here. Once the tournament is over our team will only continue to get more youthful as people like Sadiku will be replaced with Manaj, and Avdijaj. This pick was a step in the right direction for the future of the NT and I think Milot might make a surprise appearance in one of our matches considering how thin we are up front.

I can't say for sure but I'll be flying to Nice after the Lens game and stay there and travel to Marseille and Lyon on game days.

There are a lot of Albanians in the UK/Germany and Swtizlend who I am guessing will travel to the games and the atmosphere will be pretty crazy, especially for the game vs. the Swiss, since that's our first game as well.

As for ticketless fans I can see some show up as well. When I travelled to an away game in Leverkusen in 2001 I heard there were 3-4K Albanians fans outside the stadium who had no tickets.

Seems like he'll be dropping Rrahmani, Veseli, Aliji, Rashica. Still hoping he replaces Shala with Rashica. There is 0 point in bringing Shala.

They look great. Will the same jerseys be used for the WC qualifiers or just for the Euro?
